Successful stories from our mentees

IVY

Situation

A young and quietly shy girl in her third year in secondary school. She had a huge desire to start a hair styling business of her own but didn’t know how to go about bringing a business idea to life.

Intervention

Cause4Children assigned her to a mentor that supported her in clearly mapping out her business ideas, marketing strategy, pricing and other tools for promotions. Cause 4 Children also supported her by printing out flyers to encourage her to proceed with her business.

Result

She now owns a small business that’s still growing its clientele base but has kicked off. Her confidence has increased and she is positive about the future of the business.

ANNE

Situation

Anne had several business ideas and was unable to articulate the best and viable one to move forward with. She is very passionate about her environment.

Intervention

Through the assistance of a mentor that Cause4Children had assigned to her, she was able to prioritise her ideas and identify the best and most viable idea to move forward. With the assistance of her mentor, she was able to identify photography as the viable business idea to pursue at this stage, given that she was about to start her University Education. Cause 4Children also supported her with a state of the art camera to encourage her business.

Result

She is now pursuing her passion and business in photography.

COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Situation

A cohort of ten Year 8 and 9 students were identified that they will benefit from extra support with health and physical fitness.

Intervention

Cause4Children approached one of our partners ‘Befit Today’ and they put together a programme of fun sporting activities for this cohort after school. It was difficult at the start due to lack of commitment and enthusiasm from the students, however with the expertise from the sports mentor, these students became motivated and engaged very well in the sports programme.

Result

The students embraced an interest in health and fitness. Their concentration and attention span in class was also improved. Their self-confidence has improved and they now have a better outlook on themselves for the future.

Introducing your mentee to new and different experiences is also important – taking them to an exhibition, the cinema or explore appropriate hobbies with them.

You might also provide support in a number of ways such as helping your mentee to prepare college applications and run through interview techniques to helping to boost their confidence.
